In 1856, the artist’s maternal ancestors arrived in Quebec City in the hold of a sailing ship on their way to the Queen’s Bush – the dense untilled forests of Upper Canada north of Waterloo, east of Neustadt. A century later, the artist grew up on a farm down the road from the homestead of her great-great-great grandmother. more info available at www.ruthhartman.ca
